Print Job Considerations - Large Jobs

There are times where your printer is used for larger jobs, such as printing statements. Sometimes, the printer may ONLY be used as the statement printer and not used for occasional printing. If you are using a printer in this fashion, you need to first set it up and configure it to do so to prevent errors.

The first thing you should do is to go to the machine the printer is connected to and update the drivers for it. This can be done multiple ways, depending on what brand the printer it is. Some printers have specific programs that can update the drivers themselves. Others you have to go to the printer's website to download it manually. You should check for updated printer drivers anytime the printer is acting strangely and check for new updates routinely (like once a month).

Once you are sure that the drivers are up to date, you need to go to your printer settings and click on the Advanced tab. Make sure that the option in the picture below is selected. The option is "Start printing after last page is spooled." This will wait until all of the documents are sent to the printer before it prints any of them out. This allows for a more stable printing environment and less network traffic spread out over time.

If the problem persists, the problem could be involving the firmware or the memory of the selected printer. In that case, look for a firmware or memory upgrade respectively.
