Removing the 1st Character from cells in Excel
When importing spreadsheets into TransActPOS, there is a certain format the file must be before being inserted into the program. For example, if the spreadsheet has the dollar sign ($) in any of the values, that particular value will not be transferred over. You may have a spreadsheet that has dollar signs in front of every price and there are hundreds and thousands of items. To remove this sign, follow the steps below.
1. Select the single-column range of cells (this is done by left clicking the letter above the column; example below is column A)
2. From the menu bar along the top, select Data | Text-to-Columns
3. In the "Convert Text to Columns Wizard" screen, select Fixed Width and click Next
4. Click after the first character (the dollar sign) to insert a break point. You should visibly see the break point noted as a line. After the line is between and dollar sign and the numbers, click Next.
5. Click on the first column and (once highlighted) select "Do not import column (skip)."
6. Click the second column and select "Text."
7. Click Finish and the wizard will close and the spreadsheet will now show the values without the dollar sign.
