Package Break

The Carton Break allows the user to accurately reduce the source quantity and increase the target quantity based on the stocking unit of measure factor differences

The following example presents the Package Break process between stocked product on non-stocked product.

Boxed products are stocked and have a Minimum established.  When an empty bin is located and the boxed product is available to fill the bin, the boxed product is opened and dumped into the bin.  After the empty bins are filled, the empty boxes are then entered into TransActPOS to indicate the reduction of boxed products.

In this example, spare boxes of stop nuts are stored in the back of the bin drawer.  As seen in the IC | Inventory Maintenance screen, item H180153 is a box of 100 stop nuts with two (2) boxes on-hand.

A NB (Nuts and Bolts) item is a stocked item type used to create invoices for bagged items presented to the sales clerk. If it does not have an assigned MSRP or Retail Price, the system will always prompt the user for the per unit price of the departmental item. Or if the Get Quantity and/or Price boxes are checked, the user will be prompted for the Quantity and/or Price.

Filling Empty Bins

The bin for item H180153, stop nuts, is low and there are two boxes of back-stock within the drawer.

To replenish the bin, one of the boxes of stop nuts is opened and emptied in to the nearly empty bin. Other empty bins are filled with the available back-stock.  All emptied boxes are kept.

Reducing Inventory of Boxed Product

The Package Break feature transfers inventory from one item to another using the indicated quantities.  These transactions will appear within the Adjustments Report for the item as an issue for the first item and a receipt for the "Receiving Item Number".

Select IC | Package Break  and then enter the item number or UPC from one of the empty boxes you have accumulated. Within the "Receiving Item Number" field, enter the item into which the above item will be received.  In this example, the "Nuts and Bolts" departmental item number "NB" was entered.  Each of the "H180153" boxes contained 100 stop nuts, so 100 was entered into the "How many per carton?" field.
A barcode scanner can be used to help speed up the process.

Review the results of the posting indicates the H180153 item was reduced by one box.

The IC | Reports | Adjustments reflects the issue 1 box of 100 count stop nuts.

The receiving item, Nuts and Bolts, now indicates an increase in the on-hand quantity and an associated average cost.

The IC | Reports | Adjustments reflects the receipt of 100 stop nuts at $.05 per piece.

Reordering Boxed Products
Since the H180153 has a recommended reorder quantity and the on-hand value is less than the minimum, the Reorder Report will create the following order.

Suggestion for addressing the multiple selling units issue within a e-commerce site.

Most e-commerce sites will not easily address the multiple selling units found within TransActPOS so the following is an easy way to address this issue with a high level of success.

Example item: Stihl 2-cycle Engine Oil.

48-pack
UPC: 00795811349462
6-pack
UPC: 00795711349455
Single
UPC: 00795711350123

Typically stores have managed this type of product utilizing the TransActPOS Multiple Selling Units capability.  From within a single SKU, the system will present the appropriate price based upon the UPC's relation ship to the Selling Unit of Measure found within the Lookup By screen.

In the case of many e-commerce site, the individual SKU appears to be the best method on handling the on hand, retail price and location.

The Package Break allows the user to accurately reduce the source quantity and increase the target quantity based on the stocking unit of measure factor differences.

Yes, ordering the 48-Pack product will require a bit of reference to the other units of measure selling activity, but in the end, the 48-pack published quantity on hand, retail price, 48-pack, and location will be accurate.
