Resolving Problems with FTP Access for Updates

TransActPOS requires FTP communications when accessing the corporate servers for updates of the application. If you receive an "Error connecting to FTP Server" message when trying to access an update, your service provider may have a filter which is causing the problem.
Note: Your internet connection should allow access to ports 20 and 21.  If these ports are blocked, you will not be able to download updates of the TransActPOS application from the distribution server.
Trouble Shooting Options

Ping the www.transactpos.myftpserver.com site
At the workstation, attempting to access the TransActPOS Update Server, try the following:

Within Windows, Left-click on Start and select Run

In the "Open" field, enter "CMD" and select OK

A DOS window will appear into which you will type the following and press enter.

ping www.transactpos.myftpserver.com

The system should respond back with a reply which looks similar to the view below.
Note: The responding IP address will be different since this location has a dynamic IP assigned
Correct Response
Note the existence of the "Reply from ..." lines with an indicated IP address.  The Ping utility has been able to resolve the current public IP address of the www.transactpos.myftpserver.com website correctly.  If access to the updates within the TransActPOS Update menu is still denied, contact your local support to resolve this problem.
Incorrect Response
Note the existence of the "Request timed out."

This is an indicator of some type of filtering occurring at the workstation thus denying access to the www.transactpos.myftpserver.com site.  Contact your local support to resolve this problem.
