BOM Inventory Type Explained
A bill of materials (BOM) is an extensive list of raw materials, components, and instructions required to construct, manufacture, or repair a product or service. In the case of TransActPOS, the specific item type of BOM is used to create the BOM Items (the bill of materials) and Build Item (manufacture the finished good)
Adding a New BOM - Build of Materials SKU
To add a new BOM SKU to the system, within IC > Inventory File, select New and enter the Item ID (typically beginning with "BOM-". Within the description, indicate the finished goods item to ease the search process. During

Other than the Formula Result Unit and the classification options present within the General tab, the other tabs are not used within this screen.
Establishing the Formula Result Unit
The Result Unit of Measure contains the factor, in this example 40, which is the number of finished units that will present after the Build Item process. In this example, the total weight of all the BOM Items is 2,005 pounds. If 1 BOM is processed, 40 units of approximately 50 pounds of finished goods will be created.
Note: To change the Formula Result Unit of Measure, select Edit and then select the desired Unit for Measure.
To edit the Formula Result Unit of Measure, first select Edit and the select the Ellipse (...)
Choose the unit of measure that results in the appropriate number of finished goods.
Upon selecting the Ellipse, the system will allow for the selection of the Short Unit of Measure and the related Factor. This unit of measure is multiplier of the finished product. For example, a Formula Result Unit of Measure equal to "EA40" will create fifty EA1's. 2005 pounds / 40 = Forty 50 Pound bags of Finished Goods
The Formula Result Unit would not have a dividing affect if the BOM is being process for bulk feeds. As in the example above, the BOM details the ration / formula for 2,000 pounds of finished goods but will not be divided into individual bags but delivered the the customer in bulk. In this case, the Formula Result Unit will contain a factor of 1.
The Decimal Control field allows for a partial build. For instance, a customer only wants 1,000 lbs of a ration that has a Build of Materials listing based upon standard 2,000 lbs. If the Decimal Control is set to 2, the user may enter, at the time of the Build It > Process, ".50" to only product 20 50lb bags of horse feed and only consume 50% of the raw materials listed.
The classification of the BOM is typically fairly simple, but the full range of taxonomy options is available. Refer to the Support Files for further information on maintaining the various listings.
